LG has announced their new phone under the Optimus series, the LG Optimus GK. With specs and features close to Samsung Galaxy S4, this might be LG’s only real competitor to the current Samsung flagship. However, so far the phone has been announced only in Korea with the pricing still under wraps.
LG Optimus GK comes with a 5-inch screen fully HD IPS display screen. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. LG has incorporated something known as the “Zero Gap Touch Technology” for their display. However, there is no exact clarity to the enhancement and it’s benefits.
The phone runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean version. Under the hood runs a quad-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor. The device supports 16 GB internal memory with 2 GB RAM. The memory can be expanded to 64 GB using MicroSD card.

The one region where the LG Optimus GK shines is the camera. The handset comes with a 13 MP rear end snapper and a 2 MP front camera for video-calling. The phone boasts of features like Dual-recording, VR panorama and tracking focus. However, if this is to be one tough Samsung Galaxy S4 competitor, LG will have to up the ante when it comes to the camera.
While the new phone has most of the features and the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S4, it falls highly short of Samsung’s flagship model when it comes to unique features and specifications. LG will have to really work hard and strive to make in mark in a market which is in a serious tussle with the South Korean phone-maker in a bid to out-do them.
The one solace we have is that so far, LG Optimus GK looks to be a Korea exclusive device. LG is perhaps testing waters and experimenting a bit before launching a Samsung Galaxy S4 competitor world-wide? A little too late perhaps, but as the saying goes, better late than never! Right, LG?
